Tanto per completare l’anticlimax di un Natale col pesce all’acqua pazza nel piatto e Sapore di mare in tv, ho recuperato Margin Call, che non so perché non avevo ancora visto, e che è tutto quello che The Ides of March avrebbe dovuto essere e non è. Insomma la storia è quella di ventiquattr’ore in cui, dopo avere licenziato Stanley Tucci, i grandi capi di una finanziaria (o come diavolo si chiamano quelle invenzioni premoderne che fanno soldi comprando e vendendo soldi) si accorgono che lui era l’unico che aveva capito che sono non a un passo dal disastro ma tre passi dentro. Se ne accorge, smanettando su delle cifre, un ragazzino che, essendo il suo capo stato licenziato, si rivolge al già di lui capo, Paul Bettany. Il quale ha a sua volta un capo, Kevin Spacey, che ai ragazzini sembra la massima autorità aziendale. Ma, essendo il casino in corso davvero grosso, tutti quanti vengono convocati da un ulteriore capo dei capi, interpretato da Simon Baker. Che è del ’69. Bettany è del ’71, e quello che segue è il dialogo che avviene tra lui e i due ragazzini di bottega all’uscita dall’ufficio di Baker.

Nonostante le infami accuse che vengono rivolte ogni giorno al governo dall’opposizione, nessun governo in Europa ha fatto tanto e con risultati così brillanti come noi in questo momento di crisi mondiale.

Chiedo scusa per la (ulteriore) trasformazione di questo coso in una Smemoranda con le dediche, ma vorrei risparmiare sullo scatto alla risposta e dire pubblicamente a un paio di amiche che nella sesta puntata di Louie, quella di giovedì scorso, Louis C.K. porta Pamela Adlon al Gitane. E lei dice un paio delle cose più immedesimabili nella storia delle serie televisive – tipo che batte persino se stessa in Californication, tipo che batte persino Hank Moody, e Hank Moody è il personaggio più immedesimabile che chiunque mai abbia scritto, persino più di Jack Nicholson in Carnal Knowledge, più di Rhett Butler, più di Tom Waits quando chiama Martha, più di Sam Seaborn quando dice a Josh «Guys like you? I’m one of them.»

Joan Rivers è talmente enorme che mi sento pure scema a dirvelo. I suoi otto minuti in Louie sono una delle cose più notevoli che abbia visto da un pezzo. Poi un giorno sul concetto di «you don’t quit» scriverò ottocento pagine di saggio che nessuno leggerà. Intanto, «I am a million years old, do you know what I went through?
